By design4health on 26 February, 2024

The MA Design for Health (MADfH) is a 12-month programme delivered by the Art & Design Department and the Lab4Living research group at Sheffield Hallam University, taught by specialised design practitioners and researchers in design for health.

Course Leader, Dr Carlos Peralta discusses the programme of study and more:

In the MADfH, students expand their professional horizons and develop creative skills to foster a healthy society at the intersection of design, creativity, and health. The programme fosters students’ independent creative research, combining creative practice and critical and conceptual thinking while developing skills for interdisciplinary work.

The programme’s initial module, shared with MA Design students, introduces research and practice methods at an MA level. A second module, delivered by the Lab for Living, enables design development for health-specialised skills while engaging in multidisciplinary research and live projects and interacting with experts and researchers in the field. The last module includes defining and developing an MA Design final project.

After graduating from the MADfH, students are expected to find work and collaboration opportunities in various sectors, either as independent consultants, contractors or employees in public and private organisations, NGOs, design consultancy, or continue in an academic career progressing to PhD studies.
